Transferred Cabinet man faces graft raps

The Manila Standard Today reports:

“A FORMER Cabinet secretary is being investigated by the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission for unjustly enriching” himself by leasing his property in Bataan out to the agency he headed.

Presidential Management Staff head Cerge Remonde said the former Cabinet secretary, who has been transferred to another government post, faces two graft cases for conflict of interest and would be further investigated.

At the same time, Remonde said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has yet to rule on three other Cabinet secretaries that the anti-graft commission has recommended for suspension.

Palace hit for refusing to suspend Cabinet men for graft

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports:

MalacaƱang has been criticized by a militant group for rejecting a recommendation by the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission to suspend three Cabinet secretaries for alleged graft and corruption.

"MalacaƱang has been treating Cabinet officials accused of committing high crimes of corruption like endangered species. That's the kind of protection and immunity they get from key Palace officials for their all-out loyalty and puppetry to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo," said the Pambasang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) through its chairman Fernando Hicap.

Palace affirms sacking of presidential appointees

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports:

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has affirmed the decision of the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission to dismiss two presidential appointees for graft and corruption, the anti graft body said.

Signing on behalf of the President, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita approved the removal from office of Intramuros Administrator Dominador C. Ferrer and Commissioner Victoriano Calaycay of the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC).
